WHITE?
Perfection.
A vessel for the passage of time.
Surface, cleanliness, order, morality, tailoring.
Disappearance.
WHITE? is a three year wear test of a high performance waterproof breathable field jacket. Over time, the snow white polyester fabric loses its perfect, stark finish and color is added to the garment through wear and use. The garment features three functional pockets with polyurethane coated water-resistant YKK zippers. Development of a large pocket at the rear of the jacket provides generous storage space. All seams are heat sealed with a two layer waterproof breathable seam tape. The garment has been tested in temperatures ranging 40°F to 100°F with impressive results in thermal comfort and environmental protection.
White is a shade, not a color. While black is distinctively the absence of color, white is the composition of all colors simultaneously. White and black augment color. Yet, they act like colors and they evoke emotional reactions.
White is typically seen as pure, clean, and perfect. Any blemish on a white object is undesirable. However, white is the ideal shade for showcasing the passage of time. As an object loses its whiteness and gains its color, the object reveals a transformation of and within itself. Making an object white reveals its life and our relationship to it. The beauty of white is not its perfection, but its disappearance over time.
